Frequently asked questions

Answers to your bookkeeping questions.

The questions business owners ask us most, answered in plain English. Don’t see yours? Give us a call at 435-932-0312.

Getting started

How far behind can my books be?

There’s no limit. We’ve caught clients up on three years of bookkeeping, and we’re happy to start wherever you are. We’ll tell you up front how long it should take and what it will cost.

Do you work with messy books?

Yes. Cleanup work is one of our favorite things to do. We find the discrepancies, correct the errors, and leave you with books you can trust. Learn more about bookkeeping cleanup.

What happens on the consultation call?

We’ll ask about your business, the software you use, and where your books stand, and we’ll answer your questions. Afterward, we’ll recommend the services that fit and give you a clear quote.

How do you price your services?

Every business is different, so we price based on the scope of work: which services you need, how much activity runs through your books, and whether a cleanup is needed first. You’ll get a clear quote before any work begins.

Working together

Do you meet in person?

Right now all of our meetings happen over Zoom, which makes scheduling easy no matter where you are.

Do you work with businesses outside Utah?

Yes. We work over Zoom with cloud-based software and currently have clients in 13 states. See where we work.

What software do you use?

We work primarily in QuickBooks Online, and we can connect it with tools like Bill.com, Divvy, and Dext to cut down on manual entry.

What do you need from me each month?

Mostly access. Once your bank and credit card accounts are connected, we handle the day-to-day work and reach out when we need a receipt or have a question about a transaction.

How often will I receive financials?

Monthly bookkeeping clients receive financial statements once we close the books each month. We’ll set up the reports that are most useful for your business.

Do you communicate with my CPA?

Yes. We’re happy to work directly with your CPA. If you don’t have one, our in-house CPA works alongside our bookkeeping team all year.

Services

Do you only work with construction companies?

No. Construction and the trades are a specialty of ours, and we also work with dental and medical practices, professional service firms, and small businesses of all kinds.

Do you handle payroll?

Yes. We process payroll and prepare quarterly payroll tax filings. See payroll services.

Do you prepare taxes?

Yes. Our in-house CPA handles tax planning and preparation, and we prepare sales and use tax returns. See tax services.

What is Profit First?

Profit First is a cash management method where a set percentage of every deposit goes to profit and taxes first, and the business runs on the rest. We can help you set it up. See Profit First and cash flow.
